At least 20 people were killed and several others injured in a tragic accident near Chevella, Telangana, when a speeding gravel-laden tipper lorry collided head-on with a TSRTC bus traveling from Tandur to Hyderabad. The impact crushed the front section of the bus, killing both drivers and several passengers, including a mother and her infant. Rescue teams used heavy machinery to retrieve bodies from the wreckage. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy expressed deep grief and ordered immediate relief measures. Preliminary reports cite overspeeding as the cause, raising renewed concerns over highway safety and regulation of heavy vehicles in Telangana.

A horrific road accident early Monday morning, November 3, 2025, near Mirzaguda village in Chevella mandal of Telangana’s Ranga Reddy district claimed at least 20 lives and left many others critically injured when a gravel-laden tipper lorry collided head-on with a Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) bus traveling from Tandur to Hyderabad on the Hyderabad–Bijapur highway. The collision occurred around 6:30 a.m., when the bus, carrying nearly 70 passengers—many standing due to overcrowding—was hit with such force that the front portion was completely mangled and the first six rows of passengers were crushed under the impact. Eyewitnesses said the tipper truck, which was speeding and carrying heavy gravel, veered into the opposite lane on a curve, ramming directly into the bus and spilling its load onto passengers. Both drivers died instantly, along with several passengers including a 10-month-old infant and the child’s mother. The injured were rushed to the Chevella Government Hospital, with the more critical cases later shifted to hospitals in Hyderabad for advanced treatment. Rescue operations were extremely difficult as the lorry’s load had buried parts of the bus; heavy machinery like JCB excavators were used to clear debris and retrieve victims. One police officer was injured during the operation. The death toll, initially reported as 16, rose to 20 by the afternoon as more bodies were recovered. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy expressed deep grief over the tragedy and directed officials to oversee relief efforts personally, while the Transport Minister ordered immediate support to the victims and their families. Traffic on the highway came to a standstill for several hours as the wreckage blocked both lanes. Preliminary investigations suggest overspeeding by the tipper driver caused the accident, while overcrowding in the bus worsened the fatalities. Authorities have launched a detailed inquiry into the condition of both vehicles, the driver’s fitness, and road safety at the accident site. This tragedy has renewed public concern over Telangana’s road safety standards, particularly the regulation of heavy vehicles and the enforcement of speed limits on inter-district highways. Experts noted that such head-on collisions between heavily loaded trucks and passenger buses are among the deadliest, especially when both vehicles travel at high speeds. Families of the victims, many of whom were daily commuters, students, and workers returning to the city after the weekend, are in deep mourning. The state government has promised compensation to the bereaved families and pledged stronger enforcement of traffic safety norms. The Chevella accident, one of the deadliest in recent years, underscores the urgent need for stricter speed control, dedicated lanes for heavy vehicles, better road signage, and immediate highway emergency response systems to prevent such devastating incidents in the future.
